Topics include traditional and electronic information resources, managing health information, and the billing cycle. Topics include medical vocabulary and the terms that relate to the anatomy, physiology, pathological conditions, and treatment of selected systems. Emphasis is placed on nursing home care, home health care, hospice, skilled nursing facilities, and other long-term care services. Upon completion, students should be able to distinguish between the different long-term care offerings, criteria for use, and benefits of the patient, resident, and participant.

This course provides instruction on how to apply regulations and policies to perform medical record audits for provider services. Emphasis is placed on understanding the scope of an audit, statistical sampling methodologies, performing a medical record audit, and compiling data for reports to improve the revenue cycle for healthcare services.
